Shining Bird return with new single 'Out Of The Black'

Jeb Taylor

Shining Bird today returns with the release of ‘Out Of The Black’, the bands first new music since the 2021 album ‘Deadlands’ and the first taste of album number four which is set for release in 2024.

In the past 3 years the members of the band have gone through some profound changes. Three have become fathers- one of those to twins, and this has obviously fed back into the songwriting.

“Our attention has turned to things in front of and inside us. Love and loss. Interior landscapes and weather systems. The reasons for why we make and play music have evolved. Or have perhaps been remembered.” explains Russell Webster

‘Out Of The Black’ signals this new chapter of Shining Bird. Once again recording with Tim Whitten (The Go-Betweens, Powderfinger, Augie March) but this time they also collaborated with Greg Walker (Machine Translations) on string arrangements. The band captured the song live to tape with minimal takes, while Greg’s string arrangements provide a lush backdrop as they weave and bend in his signature style.

Since the beginning, Shining Bird have done things on their own terms, creating some truly unique records that has seen them collect multiple FBi SMAC Awards, album of the week nods from some of the country’s most prestigious radio stations and press outlets, along the way building a dedicated and loyal fan base on the back of the both recordings and live shows. The bands highly regarded live show has seen them handpicked to support Midnight Oil, play alongside internationals including Kurt Vile, Father John Misty and Beach House as well as deliver huge sets at festivals including Panama, Fairgrounds and Yours & Owls.

‘Out Of The Black’ is out now via Spunk Records/Virgin Music Australia/Silhoutte Label
